This is a ghost longline: a fishing gear made up of a main line with multiple branch lines and hooks attached to it.

When a longline is lost or abandoned at sea, its lines and hooks can continue catching fish, turtles, seabirds and other marine animals, even though no one is operating it. It can also become entangled in seabed habitats or pose a risk to divers and navigation.

Have you found a lost or abandoned longline or any other fishing gear?

Take photos, record the location and upload your observation to the Ghost Fishing project on Observadores del Mar: https://www.observadoresdelmar.es

Your report helps identify where this gear is found, assess its impact and support a possible response.

Observe it. Photograph it. Report it.
Because even when no one is using it, it may still be fishing.
